So I may resume this blog at a later time, but for now I'm doing a lot on our church website.  So go to www.mainstreetlife.org/thewoods for updates.

Well, for any of you who still check this, Ben and I are in Colorado right now for our national staff conference.  It's a super encouraging time, but it's also super hot!  You'd think that in the mountains it'd be a bit cooler.  No such thing.  On the way out, we spent a few days in the Badlands and Black Hills of South Dakota.

Here are the Badlands...

And here is Ben

And here is a couple of cute prairie dogs...

So overall, a good trip.  We did some hiking and took a ton of pictures.  I don't think it beats our time in Utah though-it's much more beautiful there!  We have less than 2 months until we leave for the Middle East.  YIKES!

Here's some more pictures...

This is the 1st house we worked on.  You'd never know from looking at the outside, how dirty the inside was...

But here's some of it...I won't show more.  This was the living room.  The upside down cups on her glasses and such are the keep the cockroaches out.

This is Ben's dad and Ralph.  Ralph was a pastor in MN, felt the Lord calling him to work with Katrina relief, so her resigned from his church and moved down to help...while leaving his family behind in MN.  He's almost done with his year commitment and is trying to decide what's next.  What sacrifice!

Here is the second house we worked on

we had to move all this furniture, after we cleaned it, into the back room so we could hang drywall here.

here's me gluing drywall before hanging it---yes i did work.

And then here's the cool machine-type thing that actually allowed me to help lift the drywall.

And, last one for today, here's Miss Stella and Ben and I after she cooked an amazing lunch for us!!  I had my first collard greens and actually liked them!  I loved it when Stella called Ben "Baby"!

So here's some more about our trip to LA...I'm so glad we went!  I have never seen a better picture of the church - the body of Christ - doing and being what it should.  What an experience!  This mission seeks not only to help those impacted by the hurricane to rebuild, but it most importantly seeks to renew these people spiritually through a relationship with God!  It gave me hope for what this could and should look like and an excitement to see it happening here!  Like they said while we were down there: We all have our own little Katrinas.  What are we doing about them in our own communities?

Here are some pics...
This is where we stayed.  All the piles of boxes are drinks and snacks that people have donated to the ministry.

OK-I'm having problems getting more to show--I'll try again later.

Down in New Orleans

So I'm down here in Covington, LA, doing some work with a missions group down here that's seeking to aid those people who were affected by Hurricane Katrina.  There's still a lot to do from what I hear, but I haven't seen much of the devastation that so many of my friends have seen.  I don't have much time to give lots of details, but I just had to get this 'out of my system'.  The last couple of days we've been working on a house for an 82 year old woman.  Cockroaches E V E R Y W H E R E!!!  In the cupboards, on the stove, in the sink, on the floor, on the ceiling, on the couch....everywhere!  Gross.  More later...
